Exercise advice please?

I'm thinking of taking up a kickboxing fitness cl. I've never really got into the exercise thing (I've been lucky, fast metabolism) but now I'm getting older, metabolism is slowing down I've decided I should start to do something. How long would it take to see some results? I'm looking to tone what I have, not lose any weight. Apparently the fitness cl is pretty full on.
